Tell me about silk
Silk is a natural product, resistant to dust mites and hypoallergenic. Our silk casing duvets give good protection to those who suffer from asthma and eczema.
Silk is a breathable natural material. Our silk casing duvets offer extra warmth in winter, coolness in summer. For this reason, it is preferable to conventional duvets.
What are the benefits of silk over traditional duvets?
There are a number of significant advantages, the main ones are:
Silk, being a natural product is breathable and so enables your body to maintain a more stable temperature. This combined with some innovative duvet manufacturing techniques results in a duvet that really can change the way you sleep.
Because the silk duvet covering is able to let some heat escape through the grid design. This results in a more pleasant sleep because our body temperature is kept at a more constant temperature throughout the night.
Silk has some amazing hypoallergenic properties. Silk is a natural protein and
therefore is far less hospitable to dust mites which can trigger allergic reactions such as asthma, eczema and rhinitis. Up to 20,000 dust mites have been known to live in a single mattress. The use of silk bedding and silk filled duvets greatly reduces the amount of dust mites in the bedroom.
The nature of long-strand silk fibers mean a silk duvet is just as warm but much lighter than traditional duvets, and drapes over your body instead of "suffocating" you with the bulk of a conventional duvet. Once you have experienced the softness and pure luxury of a silk duvet it is very difficult to consider using anything else.
Silk, being a natural product has a distinctive odour. This can often be mistaken for a slight chemical-like smell, but is just the natural odour of pure silk. In our experience the odour can be most noticeable when the duvets are first unpacked, but this dissipates after a few hours and is completely gone after a few days. Some duvet manufacturers bleach the silk before the manufacturing process to get rid of this smell. This totally undermines the natural properties of silk. duvets are not manufactured using harmful chemicals and as a result may have a natural silk odour
What is Microfibre?
Microfibre is a ultra fine and ultra soft fibre which is lightweight but has high thermal retention properties. Our duvets use Primaloft microfibre which was developed for the US army as an alternative to down. The advantage for the army was that when a sleeping bag became wet it would still retain its insulating capabilities unlike down or hollow-fibre. Nowaday,s due its soft fluffy velvety texture it is used in bedding.
The filling compromises of 50% microfibre. + 50% silk The microfibre content provides high loft , extra softness and traps warm air efficiently. This gives the pillow a really sumptuous cozy feel as it drapes softly over the body.
This is then treated with ultra fresh which controls the house dust-mite, the most common cause of allergies also inhibits bacteria growth and keeps the fabric feeling fresh wash after wash.
